Tamara Matthews: World Renowned Soprano!
   
Here is a little about me!
 
American soprano, Tamara Matthews is rapidly rising to the forefront of the music world as one of its most promising young talents.
A voice described as "worthy of the angels" brought her First Prize at the
prestigious Musica Sacra Bach Vocal Competition, which resulted in
her acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut in 1994. Appearances with the Los Angeles
Master Chorale, the Accademia per La Musica Antica (Bressanone,
Italy), and the Berkeley, Boston and Ravinia Festivals soon
followed.
 
Recent engagements as guest soloist include performances of Beethoven's
Missa Solemnis, his Ninth Symphony and the Mozart Mass
in C minor in San Francisco, an evening of Haum lndel arias at
New York's Merkin Hall, and Mendelssohn's Elijah in Philadelphia.
She has collaborated with many notable conductors including Paul Salamunovich
(Brahms' Requiem), San Francisco Symphony's Vance George (Haydn's
Creation), Joshua Rifkin (Bach's Mass in b minor),and
Robert Page (Haum Indel's Dixit Dominus and R.V. Williams'
Dona Nobis Pacem).
 

Ms. Matthew's discography is growing steadily, both in quantity and diversity.
A recentFanfare review stated that "her purity of tone and agility
puts her ahead of the competition." The newest addition is a special
commemorative recording of Bach's Mass in b minor with the Bach
Choir of Bethlehem and mezzo soprano Marietta Simpson, which has just
been produced for the Dorian label. Recent releases include the
Buxtehude Sacred Cantatas and a live performance of Bach's St.
John Passion on Pro Gloria Musicae; The Music of William
Byrd  on Lyrichord; Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Haydn's
Lord Nelson Mass for Koch International Classics; and a unique collection
of works by Ristori, Fux, Heinichen and Lotti with mezzo soprano, Jennifer
Lane. Future recording projects include Boccherini's Stabat Mater,
 and Ms. Matthew's first recording of Bach solo cantatas. She has
also recorded for Angel/EMI and the Musical Heritage Society.


In the summer season of 1997, Ms. Matthews débuted with the Cleveland
Symphony Orchestra
at the Blossom Music Festival, where she performed
as soloist in the "Beethoven Marathon" in the composer's Mass in C
 and Choral Fantasy,  all under the direction of Maestro
Leonard Slatkin. She also participated as solo vocalist with the prestigious
Marlboro Music Festival. Highlights of her 1997-8 season include
Pergolesi's Stabat Mater  with Thoms Wikman in Chicago, a debut
with the Philadelphia Orchestra with Maestro Luis Biava (Händel's
Messiah), and a spring performance of Bach's St. John Passion with
the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra conducted by Joseph Flummerfelt.


Recently, Ms. Matthews has joined the faculty of the Westminster Choir
College
(Princeton, New Jersey), as a professor of voice. She appeared
as soloist with this illustrious ensemble at Carnegie Hall in December.
